Our office was founded in 1955. For 60+ years we have provided innovative eye care solutions for our patients' visual needs. Our success is driven by treating each patient as if he/she were a family member or personal friend. Patients often remark about our courtesy, attention, and friendliness. Dr. Ritzel is a native of Belleville. He attained his Doctor of Optometry Degree from the Oklahoma College of Optometry in 2000. He completed a post-graduate residency in the medical and surgical management of eye diseases at Eye Health Partners of Middle Tennessee. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Illinois Optometric Association, the Southwestern IL Optometric Society, and the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness. In 2014 Dr. Ritzel became one of the first Optometrists in the region to attain Board Certification by the American Board of Optometry. Dr. Ritzel accepts patients of all ages. Always on the forefront of new developments in eye care, Dr. Ritzel tries to think “outside the box” to provide unique, customized, and innovative solutions to his patients’ vision problems. Outside the office, he serves as an Elder at Fairview Heights Church of Christ and enjoys bible classes, cycling, and spending time with his family. Dr. Ritzel and his wife, Jana, were married in 1997, and have 2 children.



Dr. Taylor grew up in Freeburg, IL and enjoys practicing in the area. She attended Indiana University School of Optometry where she completed her Doctor of Optometry Degree in 2017. She has been with Belleville Optometry since August of 2017. Dr. Taylor is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Illinois Optometric Association. Dr. Taylor enjoys all aspects of optometry and sees patients of all ages, but has a special place in her heart for pediatrics. In her free time she enjoys running, traveling, exploring outdoors, and spending time with family.





Kristy graduated from Kaskaskia College in 2002 with Medical Office Personnel Certification. Since then, she has worked as an optician in retail and private practice, receiving additional training as an optical laboratory technician. In 2006 she became a Certified Optician by the American Board of Opticianry and began working in our office. She currently manages our optical dispensary, and is responsible for purchasing, marketing, display, and all things related to eyeglass frames. She enjoys meeting with frame representatives and keeping our displays current, modern, and fashionable. Kristy and her husband, Kyle, reside in Troy, IL. They have 2 small children.



Stephanie is one of our newer employees here at Belleville Optometry. She has a lot of experience with childcare and management. Stephanie is new to the Belleville area; she recently moved here from St. Charles Missouri. She had attended St. Charles community college for 2 years. She loves hiking with her dog Xena, working out, cooking, and recently took up Biking.



Tammy began working in our office in November 2018.  She came to us with extensive experience in the optical field, having worked in eye care settings since 1988.
Tammy graduated from the Medical Assistant Program at SWIC with high honors in 1998, and achieved certification from the American Board of Opticianry in 2001.
Tammy's primary roles are obtaining insurance pre-authorizations, and helping patients select the perfect pair of eyeglasses.  However, she is also skilled in contact lens training, clinical testing, and just about anything else that goes on in our office.
Tammy and her husband, Doug, both from Belleville, have 3 beautiful girls - Alana, Tara, and Kayla.  They also have 3 grandchildren - Devon, Haylee, and Connor.  In her free time, Tammy enjoys swimming, music, and fashion.



Ivana has been happily serving patients at Belleville Optometry since September 2019. Born and raised in Belleville, she attended UMSL for 2 years and went to YWAM Denver and YWAM Chico for additional schooling.  She has been involved with customer service for a very long time and loves to be with patients. You can find her at the front desk welcoming others in, helping patients find the perfect fit of glasses, and sometimes pretesting.   She has a son, Genesis, and loves to spend time with him in her free time.  She also likes to work out, drink coffee, and travel!



Jana began working in our office in 2008, and has nearly 20 years experience in insurance billing, accounts receivable, and customer service. She is the person to go to with any questions regarding your insurance benefits, and is happy to help you navigate through the confusion that is third-party healthcare in America.
Her primary job is taking care of her family and in her spare time she loves Bible study, gardening and yoga.



Anita has been working in the optical industry for over 30 years, and has been certified by the American Board of Opticianry since 1976. She has worked in our office since 2001.
Anita's optical experience is extensive, having worked in hard and soft contact lens manufacturing, contact lens research, staff and patient training, clinical assistant, professional dispensing, laboratory opticianry, and management.
In our office, Anita is one of the friendly faces that greet you as you walk through the door. In addition, Anita puts in a lot of time in the optical dispensary educating patients and helping select eyewear that fits their unique situation. She frequently attends seminars and workshops so that she is always on the forefront of new developments within the industry. More than anything else, Anita enjoys the personal interactions with her patients and offering them the latest in technology and fashion; her repeat patients and referrals are a testament to Anita's capabilities.
Anita is the mother of 3 grown girls and a grandmother of 4. When she isn't working, you can usually find Anita fishing with her grandsons or sewing and quilting.



Rick holds degrees from Eastern Illinois University and Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville. He is certified by the American Board of Opticianry, having practiced Opticianry in our practice since 1976.
Rick's primary responsibilities are in the production of prescription eyewear, quality control, and laboratory management. He also excels in troubleshooting when patients are having difficulty adapting or adjusting to their new glasses. He is known for being gentle and patient, and a good listener.
Rick was born and raised in Belleville. he was introduced to the optical field by his optometrist father, Dr. Cyril H, Wagner. He lives in Belleville with his wife of 30+ years, Lisa. They have 2 grown children: Sara and Greg.
